If you find one of these beauties in your garden like I did, consider yourself fortunate to have had more than a glimpse of an adult moth that lives about a week. Although considered to be common, since their habitat ranges throughout North America, they are seldom seen. I prefer to think of them as a species that indicates where they are seen is relatively "green". At my cabin in North Georgia in may, I've seen veritable flocks of them flit in the floodlights, then find the newly emergent adult moths on Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron elarging and drying their wings. The Southern Appalachians have places "with dew still on them", pristine wilderness that appears not to have seen the footsteps of a human for many years. So we, I am back. This site has been neglected somewhat, but if you continue to scroll down on this page you will find some pictures and stories of fly fishing excursions and catches with my friend Malcolm, and folk art continuing in Brasstown, NC with my friend Ben Willingham, famous painter of drinking gourds and gourd vessels among other unusual "canvas". I am going to try to keep the pictures taken with my Canon high-res SLR bigger and so freely downloadable instead of the thumbnails of prior issues. They may not be the full- 10+ megapixel versions (still available from moi), but much better than the postage-stamp sized t-nails of prior issues. |

This is yours truly, AskaGuide, displaying what me and my fly fishing mentor, Malcolm, decided to harvest from the Toccoa headwaters for dinner recently. These Rainbows are between 13 and 14 inches each, caught on dry flies. To hire me as a personal guide to increase your chance to catch trout like this near Blue Ridge, GA, simply email me. A fresh caught grill specialty is Rosemary Rainbow with New York Strip or as I like to call it: Whitewater and Black Angus. If you are an up and coming fly caster with an eye toward some day getting your Fly Casting Instructor certification, you can study for the written portion of the exam on your Windows computer with my Certified Fly Casting Instructor Exam Simulator software. I have other cert exam sims for Project Management Professional (PMP), Enrolled Agent (EA), and IT certs: Network/IT Tech , Java , PHP , Oracle, and Business Objects/Crystal Reports.

A V.Van Gogh? Noooo, an Aska Van Guide. Painted this today, while visiting my friend Ben at his gallery near the J.C. Campbell Folk School at Brasstown, NC. For some reason, while kicking back at Ben's studio, his bold painting on gourds for birds, drinking and vessels, inspires me to be just as bold with subjects like this: Impatiens in a Windowbox. This acrylic will likely get shipped to my Mother up North as she grew the subject flowers last year. Green thumbs run in the family. Ben's gourd work of the same day has the new bold colors I thought may be the Gator Gourd,
appealing to a visiting Gainesville, FL, sports maven lucky enough to get this one-of-a kind
natural piece of mountain folk art by Ben O. Willingham.

This is Ben's neighbor, across the street (64 W., Brasstown, NC), Judy Pepper, who makes and sells "funky and functional", unique custom arts and crafts at her shop called the "Frog and Dragon". It is obvious that Ben and Judy and are dedicated to their work (me too). Worth a visit to Brasstown, NC, don't you think?
