Happy new year. In 1968 I dreamed 2008 would have us colonizing mars. What happened? Or at least curing cancer. My predictions have not come about. So much for my powers seeing the future. How about you? Any hits on predictions. Perhaps I did see the future. You just saw a different one than actually came about. I think we as a society focus in too much on the petty details, like buying Blackberries so we can text our project team asking for status. So many of us insist the crazy weather is just a result of cycles. It may be, but the blizzard i walked a couple miles through the night before last in North GEORGIA got me thinking - am I really in GEORGIA? Ok, its not GLOBAL WARMING, but something wierd is going on, perhaps as a result of carbon emissions, etc. Maybe we better get our butts to Mars ASAP.|AskaGuide|2008-1-3

Camped off the AT in Southwestern North Carolina for a couple nights early this week. The sky was clear and full of stars. Very little light pollution where I was, at about 3500 or so feet of altitude. What a huge difference from the glowing skies near cities. The flora conditions remain obviously dry so I strictly attended my little campfire in a nice fire ring I found along the trail. Awoke to a pack of coyotes howling in the distance early both mornings.

Here is a camp list, not all-inclusive, but may be good for emergencies too: Sterno stove and fuel, pots, teapot, cups and utensils, dishes or paper plates, candles, flashlights and batteries, towel, flip-flops, aspirin, tarps, tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, gloves and nippers ...|BMTHiker|2007-6-25

Wow, we must be on some ESP connection, as I was thinking similarly, ...Hike. How about this for starters: Snowshoes, Wood Stove, Matches and Fire Starters, Cash (handy for emergencies), bottled water, spare clothing (rain gear and stuff for extreme temps), bleach (cheap disinfectant)... did I forget anything?|Paddlefoot|2007-6-25

Not much activity on this here blog, so I am gonna try to start somethin'. With all the play climate change is getting we need to compile a list of things that may come in handy in case disaster strikes. Some things are great to have for that unseasonably hot or cold, or dry or wet weather. |ILike2Hike|2007-6-25

You all call these adventure stories? Where are the daredevils?|Yeeehaa|2006-10-2

Make sure you store those clay pots upside down. I use the terra cotta pot saucer big bottoms for chic bird baths. In freezing weather they can crack.|HollerEcho|2006-9-21

Fresh eggs do have an "earthy" flavor, or something. I was so excited to have producing chickens for a few months here in the Southern Apps, and so was my hound. She (the hound) whittled the flock down to zero. I now use the coop I designed as a clay pot storage shed.|AskaGuide|2006-9-14

Hey, I like Duplin too. Sweet and thick, nice before or after a meal - even with a fried egg sandwich.|ILike2Hike|2006-6-4

Real adventure is frying that egg sandwich on a wood fired stove in your Appalachian cabin.|hillbilly|2006-6-3

It's only adventure if you do the egg(s) over easy and they are fresh eggs. Try some laid the same or preious day by your own chickens in your yard. THAT, my friend, will make a fried egg sandwich.|FishPack| 2006-6-1

You all want to try some Texas Pete Honey Mustard Sauce on that fried egg sandwich. I like Duplin Hatteras Red Sweet Muscadine Wine along with it.|Askaguide|2006-5-5

Psyllium Husks are light enough to take along on a weekend backpack trip. A high fiber regimen to conteract the beef jerky, bagels and other corking but light high protein grub.|FishPak|2006-5-2

Talk about adventure, I love Psyllium Husks with my morning coffee.|LLBeaner|2006-4-29

Get yourself a tablespoon of Psyllium Husks in a tall glass of well water before you have that fried egg sandwich.|Aukneat|2006-4-21

The Toccoa River is one of the prettiest canoeing rivers I have ever paddled.|Paddlefoot|2006-4-19
